Honeywell Acquires Li-ion Tamer Business to Boost Fire Safety Solutions

ECHEMI 2025-07-03

On July 1, 2025, Honeywell announced the acquisition of the Li-ion Tamer business from Nexceris, a U.S.-based energy company founded in 1994. This acquisition strengthens Honeywell’s building automation portfolio by integrating advanced thermal runaway detection technology into its fire safety solutions.

The Li-ion Tamer system is a leading early warning solution for lithium-ion battery failures, capable of detecting potential thermal runaway incidents up to 30 minutes in advance. With over 30 patents worldwide, the technology has earned the trust of global battery OEMs and is vital for preventing battery fires in applications like energy storage and data centers.

Honeywell’s Billal Hammoud, President and CEO of the Building Automation division, emphasized that the growing adoption of lithium-ion batteries in data centers, EV infrastructure, and grid-scale storage has escalated fire risks. By acquiring this technology, Honeywell aims to become a leader in gas detection and fire prevention. The solution complements Honeywell’s existing VESDA smoke detection technology and Forge IoT platform, offering end-to-end fire protection for high-growth sectors.

This strategic acquisition follows Honeywell’s recent moves to optimize its portfolio, including $13.5 billion in acquisitions since December 2023 and the divestment of its personal protective equipment business. Honeywell’s ongoing focus on energy transition and digital innovation underscores its commitment to creating smarter, safer infrastructure in industrial automation and sustainability.
