637 Million Dollar Deal Samsung Heavy Launches Mozambique FLNG Project as LNG Orders Hit 3.3 Billion

ECHEMI 2025-07-16

Samsung Heavy Industries has officially launched its Mozambique floating LNG (FLNG) project after securing a $637 million contract with a European shipping company operating in Africa. This high-profile deal cements the Korean shipbuilder’s position as a global LNG infrastructure leader and highlights its growing focus on offshore energy solutions.

The agreement—soon to be finalized—calls for Samsung Heavy to construct a state-of-the-art FLNG facility, meeting surging demand prompted by global energy security concerns following the Russia-Ukraine crisis. Changing US energy policy is also driving new investment trends in the sector.

With this latest contract, Samsung Heavy’s 2025 new orders have reached $3.3 billion—already 34% of its $9.8 billion annual target. As of June, the company’s order backlog stands at $26.5 billion, ensuring full-capacity operations for the next three years.

Samsung Heavy aims to win one to two major offshore contracts each year, further reinforcing its dominance in the booming LNG market.
