AGC Sells Polycarbonate Business to Sumitomo Bakelite

ECHEMI 2025-07-24

AGC announced that it has reached an agreement with Sumitomo Bakelite to transfer its polycarbonate business.

Under its medium-term management plan "AGC plus-2026", the AGC Group is pursuing "ambidextrous management" to build a business portfolio that can withstand market fluctuations, has high asset efficiency, high growth potential and high carbon efficiency.

AGC's polycarbonate business has a history of more than 30 years, and in addition to building materials, it also provides a rich product lineup in a wide range of fields such as industry and electronics to meet customer needs. Among them, Twincarbo and polycarbonate sheets for optical purposes have been highly evaluated in the market.

AGC believes that for the further growth and development of this business, the best approach is to transfer the business to Sumitomo Bakelite, which has advanced technical capabilities in the above fields and can effectively utilize AGC's assets.
