Ethylene glycol prices ease.
This week, the price of ethylene glycol began to soften. According to the data, as of July 31, the average price of oil-based ethylene glycol in China was 4,436.67 CNY/ton, a decrease of 0.60% from the average price of 4,463.33 CNY/ton on the previous Friday; and an increase of 0.91% from the average price of 4,396.67 CNY/ton on July 1.
In terms of imported monoethylene glycol, on July 31, 2025, the spot contract price of monoethylene glycol at the Chinese port first strengthened and then weakened, with the transaction range being 4,480 to 4,490 CNY/ton. The intraday basis slightly strengthened, with the intraday basis range for the spot contract this week being +67 to +72. After the market closed, the night session low-hanging basis was in the range of +73 to +74.
The spot price of coal-to-polyester grade ethylene glycol in China (bulk, tax included, self-pickup) for a full truckload is 3950-4100 CNY/ton.
Regarding ethylene glycol in the international market, as of July 28, the China CIF price for ethylene glycol was USD 528 per ton, and the Southeast Asia CIF price was USD 546 per ton.
July port inventory is at a relatively low level.
From January to mid-February, there was a significant accumulation of ethylene glycol inventory at ports. In March and April, the port inventory fluctuated. In May and June 2025, the destocking of ethylene glycol in the main ports of East China was noticeable, and currently, the port inventory is at a relatively low level. As of July 28, the total inventory of ethylene glycol in the main ports of East China was 456,500 tons, a decrease of 85,500 tons from the total inventory of 542,000 tons on July 3.
