BASF to Shut Down Hydrosulfites Production in Ludwigshafen
BASF has decided to exit the hydrosulfites business and will close the related production facilities at its Ludwigshafen site.
As a result, the company will gradually discontinue the supply of hydrosulfites as well as HydroBlue 90, HydroBlue 92, Hydrosulfite Evo, Adlite, and Blankit. This decision is part of the ongoing strategic review of production activities in Ludwigshafen and reflects BASF’s focus on businesses with long-term value creation potential. Around 65 employees currently working in the hydrosulfites unit will be supported in finding new roles within the BASF Group.
Dr. Ramkumar Dhruva, President of BASF’s Monomers division, stated: “Focus is a cornerstone of BASF’s Winning Ways strategy. By concentrating on profitability and long-term value creation, we strengthen our competitiveness in a challenging economic environment. As we gradually exit the hydrosulfites business, we will work closely with employees and customers to ensure a responsible transition.”
Hydrosulfites is commonly used as a reducing agent in textile dyeing and as a bleaching additive in pulp and paper applications.
