In late September, the overall market trend for maleic anhydride in China slightly declined
On September 30, in the women's singles 1/16 match of the 2025 World Table Tennis (WTT) Grand Slam held in Beijing, Chinese player Sun Yingsha defeated her teammate Zhu Sibing 3-0, advancing to the top 16. Meanwhile, on the same evening, in the men's singles quarterfinals of the 2024 China Open, Chinese player Buyunchaokete, participating with a wildcard, won against the 4th seeded Russian player Andrey Rublev with scores of 7-5, 6-4, advancing to the semifinals and setting a new record for Chinese male tennis players at the China Open.
According to the commodity analysis system, in late September, the market for maleic anhydride in China saw a slight decline. As of September 30, the average market price for maleic anhydride produced by the n-butane oxidation method remained at 5,450.00 CNY per ton, a decrease of 3.11% from 5,625.00 CNY per ton on September 21.
Supply side: In late September, the overall market for maleic anhydride fell back; the pre-holiday inventory clearance of maleic anhydride factories provided limited support to the market; the procurement of maleic anhydride by its downstream unsaturated resins was limited, and the atmosphere for stockpiling was poor. By the end of the month, while the auction price of Wanhua continued to rise and the factory price followed, the quotations from dealers remained largely stable. As of September 30, in Shandong region, the factory price of solid maleic anhydride was operating around 5100 CNY/ton, and that of liquid maleic anhydride was around 4800 CNY/ton.
Upstream: Butane prices rose in late September, reaching around 4,650 CNY per ton in Shandong as of September 30.
Downstream: Currently, the market for unsaturated resins remains weak, with most producers planning short-term shutdowns or reduced production capacity during the National Day holiday. Downstream transactions are sluggish, providing limited support to the unsaturated resin market, which continues to face weak demand.
The analysts of maleic anhydride products believe that currently, the market for unsaturated resins, which is the main downstream of maleic anhydride, is weak, leading to limited procurement of maleic anhydride; currently, factories do not face inventory pressure, and logistics are restricted during the holiday period, it is expected that after the holiday, the maleic anhydride market in China will mainly undergo consolidation.
