December 1st News
1、Zhejiang Petrochemical acrylonitrile plant approval
On January 16, 2025, the Zhoushan Ecological Environment Bureau (Daishan Branch) issued an announcement regarding the proposed approval of the high-end new materials project by Zhejiang Petrochemical Co., Ltd.
Project Name: Construction of High-end New Materials Project by Zhejiang Petrochemical Co., Ltd.
Construction Site: Yushan Island, Daishan County
Construction Entity: Zhejiang Petrochemical Co., Ltd.
Project Overview: This project involves the construction of 18 production units, including a new No. 3 acrylonitrile unit with a capacity of 660,000 tons/year and a No. 3 MMA unit with a capacity of 200,000 tons/year, as well as associated storage and transportation facilities, water supply and drainage systems, power and telecommunications infrastructure, thermal engineering and auxiliary facilities, and an automobile loading and unloading station.
2. Commissioning of Jilin Petrochemical’s 1.2 million tons/year ethylene and 260,000 tons/year acrylonitrile project
In the east area of China National Petroleum Corporation's Jilin Petrochemical Company, a 1.2 million tons per year ethylene plant was handed over on April 30. As the core facility of Jilin Petrochemical's oil refining and chemical transformation project, after commissioning, it can produce 1.2 million tons of polymer-grade ethylene and 587,000 tons of polymer-grade propylene annually.
In the western area of China National Petroleum Corporation's Jilin Petrochemical Company, Jilin Petrochemical's 260,000-ton/year acrylonitrile unit was handed over in sync with the ethylene unit on April 30, and will be commissioned within the year. After commissioning, Jilin Petrochemical's key chemical products, ABS and acrylonitrile, will achieve leading capacity in China, with an annual production capacity of 1.8 million tons of ABS, ranking first in China and third in the world.
3. Lanzhou Petrochemical’s newly built 130,000-ton/year acrylonitrile plant
Lanzhou Petrochemical has built a new 130,000 tons/year acrylonitrile unit and a 70,000 tons/year nitrile butadiene unit, achieving full-grade development in oil resistance, wide temperature range, resilience, and wear resistance, to create a nitrile giant in China.
4. Sinochem Sales East China successfully completed the first batch sales of acrylonitrile products from Zhenhai Refining & Chemical.
To overcome the challenges posed by summer high temperatures and the transportation of highly toxic hazardous chemicals, Huaxiao East China successfully delivered 146 tons of acrylonitrile to the customer’s Hangzhou Bay plant. This marks the successful completion of the first batch of acrylonitrile product sales for the second-phase project of Zhenhai Refining & Chemical, providing comprehensive support for the smooth commissioning and product sales of the project.
5. Sinochem East China achieves the first export of acrylonitrile products from China
Under the close cooperation of Sinopec Chemical Sales East China, Zhenhai Refining & Chemical, and Sinopec Chemical Sales International, the foreign vessel "ZAO GALAXY" carrying acrylonitrile products successfully completed loading and set sail for a port in India. This export not only marks the "zero breakthrough" for Sinopec Chemical Sales' acrylonitrile products entering the international market but also creates significant benefits for all parties in the industrial chain through an innovative swap model.
6. Jiangsu chemical industry restricts/eliminates 34 major categories! Involving products such as acrylonitrile.
The Jiangsu Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology has issued a public notice soliciting comments on the “Catalog of Restrictions and Phasing Out Measures for the Adjustment of the Chemical Industry Structure in Jiangsu Province (2025 Edition).” Production facilities for acrylonitrile with a capacity of 200,000 tons per year or less are subject to restrictions.
7. Commissioning of New Acrylonitrile Plants in China in 2025 and Adjustments to the Total Production Capacity Base
In March 2025, Yulong Petrochemical commissioned a 130,000 tons/year acrylonitrile production line, bringing China's total acrylonitrile production capacity to 4,529,000 tons/year.
In April 2025, the new 260,000 tons/year acrylonitrile unit at Quanzhou China Petrochemical was commissioned, bringing China's total acrylonitrile production capacity to 4,789,000 tons/year.
In June 2025, the 400,000 tons/year acrylonitrile unit of Zhenhai Refining & Chemical was put into operation, adjusting China's total acrylonitrile production capacity to 5,189,000 tons/year.
In September 2025, Jilin Petrochemical successfully commissioned a new 260,000 tons/year acrylonitrile unit. With this, Jilin Petrochemical's total acrylonitrile capacity reached 684,000 tons/year (the capacity before the upgrade was 452,000 tons/year). China's total acrylonitrile capacity base was adjusted to 5,421,000 tons/year.
