Chemspec Europe 2026 set to unveil next wave of speciality chemicals innovation

1 MAY, COLOGNE: Chemspec Europe is preparing to open its doors in Cologne on 6–7 May 2026, bringing together the global speciality chemicals community under one roof at Koelnmesse. The event is the industry’s definitive multi-sector meeting point, driving innovation across the entire chemical value chain.

This year's show floor will be packed with debuts, product launches and technology presentations spanning catalysis, bioprocessing, continuous flow chemistry, sustainable ingredients and high-performance materials, offering a snapshot of where the industry is heading next.

The scale and diversity of the event are reflected in its numbers. A total of 455 exhibitors will take part, including 126 first-time exhibitors, underlining both the show’s continued momentum and the influx of new market entrants. Manufacturers and suppliers of fine and speciality chemicals account for the largest share of overall exhibitors, alongside a significant presence of contract development and manufacturing organisations (CDMOs), equipment providers and service specialists.

By sector, pharmaceutical applications will be the most strongly represented, followed by agriculture, paints and coatings, personal care and cosmetics, and electronics and batteries, each with more than 100 exhibitors. A growing interest in sustainable chemistry is also reflected in the 61 companies highlighting biobased solutions and 25 showcasing biodegradable products.

Alongside these core sectors, the show will also bring together exhibitors serving a broad mix of other specialist industries, including water treatment, metal surface treatment, pulp and paper, textiles and fibres, glass and ceramics, packaging, and recycling, reflecting the full breadth of applications underpinned by speciality chemistry.

New products and debuts

Innovation will be front and centre, with several companies choosing Chemspec as the platform to launch new products.

Cabro will present a new catalyst containing platinum and vanadium, while Enzymaster debuts its isocitric acid and fruit-like acid profiles for next-generation formulations, a move that signals growing appetite for biocatalytic routes in speciality chemistry. THIELMANN will spotlight its Tight-Head Drum for Chemical Substances with Tri-Sure® Connections, a high-performance packaging solution engineered for safe chemical handling and certified compliance in demanding industrial environments.

Elsewhere on the floor, Midas Chemicals is expanding beyond its established pharmaceutical network into the broader chemicals segment. As part of its expansion, triflic acid is newly added to its portfolio, with triflic anhydride set to follow - a sign of the company's ambitions in the reagents and intermediates space. Ubichem will present ubispoke®, a custom synthesis approach built on the premise that chemistry, not equipment, should determine cost, purity, scalability and environmental footprint across a molecule's lifetime.

Process technology and innovation

Advances in process technology will also take centre stage. Fluitec will introduce its Dynamic Cascade Reactor (DCR), enabling robust continuous operation where static mixers reach their limits. It achieves this by shifting precipitation into the bulk phase in a controlled manner, marking a step forward for continuous flow chemistry.

Meanwhile, Axplora arrives at the show floor following a $60 million investment to enhance HPAPI capabilities at its Farmabios site in Italy, including a new R&D and laboratory hub designed to support faster development and scale-up of highly potent molecules.

Sustainability and circular innovation

Sustainability remains a defining theme across the show. SEQENS will present its speciality ingredients portfolio structured around five key sustainability pillars, serving personal care, lubricants, coatings and solvents markets.

Finally, Alsico, in collaboration with Stuff4Life and Coats, will showcase a breakthrough in circular high-visibility workwear. By recovering and reusing retro-reflective glass beads from end-of-life hi-vis garments, they are addressing one of the sector's most persistent recycling barriers.

A conference programme tackling the industry’s biggest questions

Alongside the innovations on the show floor, the trends shaping the future of speciality chemicals will be explored in depth through a comprehensive conference programme spanning keynote presentations, panel discussions and interactive roundtables.

Sessions will address the industry’s most pressing challenges and opportunities, from advanced technologies and AI-driven R&D to sustainability and green chemistry and regulatory change, equipping attendees with practical insights into how the sector is progressing from molecule to market. The agenda includes a brand-new session on PFAS regulation, built around an exclusive whitepaper developed for Chemspec Europe by GPC Group and S&P Global, which will be launched to coincide with the event.
