A 100-million-ton oil and gas area has been discovered in Tarim Basin, Xinjiang
Shunbei 44X well, a key exploration well deployed by The Northwest Oilfield Branch of Sinopec in The Shunbei Oil and gas Field in The Tarim Basin of China, has obtained more than 1,000 tons of oil and gas equivalent, the sinopec Press Office announced. It marks that no. 4 fault zone of Shunbei oil and gas field has obtained an important discovery of 100 million tons of oil and gas area. So far, Sinopec has proven oil and gas reserves of more than 200 million tons in the area.

Shunbei 44X well is located in the No. 4 fault zone of Shunbei oil and gas field, with a complete drilling depth of 8261 meters. The daily output of crude oil was 865 tons and natural gas was 590,000 cubic meters, equivalent to 1,330 tons of oil and gas equivalent.
Shunbei oil and gas Field has the characteristics of super deep, super high pressure and super high temperature. The average burial depth of the reservoir is more than 7300 meters, making it one of the deepest reservoirs in the world, which makes exploration and development difficult.
In 2016, SINOPEC announced a major commercial discovery in its exploration of the Shunbei oil and gas field. Since then, SINOPEC has intensified its efforts in scientific and technological research, solved a series of world-class technical problems, innovated and formed the ultra-deep fault-controlled oil and gas accumulation theory of Shunbei Oil and gas field, and successively discovered the no. 1 fault zone, No. 5 fault zone and No. 4 fault zone of Shunbei oil and gas field with a class of 300 million tons.
By 2020, shunbei Oil and gas Field will have a capacity of one million tons. In June 2021, accumulated crude oil production exceeded 3 million tons and natural gas exceeded 1 billion cubic meters, becoming an important position for sinopec to increase storage and production during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.
Data show that up to now, northwest Oil Field Branch has proved a total of 1.5 billion tons of petroleum reserves, 74 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserves, oil and gas equivalent output of more than 140 million tons, is one of the top ten onshore oil fields in China.
