2021 second quarter results of 46 chemical companies including BASF, Linde, Dow, Wanhua, Syngenta, Bayer-Europe
BASF (BASF) announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2021. Quarterly sales of 19.8 billion euros (approximately 23.2 billion US dollars), an increase of 56% over the same period last year. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization for the quarter excluding special items were 3.2 billion euros. Sales in the chemical business area in the second quarter increased by 91% from the same period last year to 3.4 billion euros. Sales in the materials business area increased by 75% to 3.7 billion euros. Sales in the industrial solutions business area were 2.4 billion euros, a significant increase over the same period last year. Sales in the surface treatment technology business area were 5.9 billion euros, a significant increase over the same period last year. Sales in the nutrition and care business area increased by 2% from the same period last year to 1.6 billion euros. Sales in the agricultural solutions business area were 2 billion euros, a significant increase from the same period last year. Sales in other business areas were 793 million euros.
LyondellBasell (LyondellBasell) announced the results of the second quarter of 2021. Quarterly sales revenue was 11.561 billion U.S. dollars, compared with 5.546 billion U.S. dollars in the same period last year. The quarterly net profit was US$2.059 billion, compared with US$314 million in the same period last year.
Linde plc announced the results for the second quarter of 2021. Quarterly sales revenue was 7.584 billion U.S. dollars, compared with 6.377 billion U.S. dollars in the same period last year. Net profit for the quarter was US$841 million, compared with US$458 million in the same period last year.
Air Liquide announced its results for the second quarter and first half of 2021. The total revenue in the second quarter was 5.334 billion euros (approximately 6.256 billion US dollars), compared with 5.512 billion euros in the same period last year. In the first half of the year, total revenue was 10.846 billion euros, compared with 10.273 billion euros in the same period last year. In the first half of the year, the group's net profit was 1.239 billion euros, compared with 1.078 billion euros in the same period last year.
Covestro (Covestro) announced the results of the second quarter of 2021. Group sales exceeded 3.9 billion euros (approximately US$4.57 billion), a year-on-year increase of 83.5%. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increased to 817 million euros, compared with 125 million euros in the same period last year. The quarterly net profit was 449 million euros, compared with a net loss of 52 million euros in the same period last year. In the second quarter, sales of the polyurethane business segment were approximately 1.8 billion euros, more than double the 913 million euros in the same period last year. Sales of the polycarbonate business segment increased by 56.6% to around 1 billion euros, compared with 648 million euros in the same period last year. Sales of the coatings, adhesives and specialty chemicals business segment increased to 926 million euros, compared with 443 million euros in the same period last year.
Evonik (Evonik) announced the second quarter of 2021 financial report. Quarterly sales increased by 29% year-on-year compared to 2020, reaching 3.64 billion euros (approximately US$4.27 billion). Adjusted net income increased by 58% to 253 million euros. In the second quarter, sales of the specialty additives business unit increased by 23% to 922 million euros. Sales of the Nutrition and Consumer Chemicals business unit increased by 13% to 838 million euros. Sales of the Smart Materials business segment increased by 35% to 975 million euros. Sales of the functional materials business unit increased by 62% to 708 million euros.
Solvay (Solvay) announced the second quarter of 2021 results. Net sales in the second quarter were 2.456 billion euros (approximately 2.88 billion U.S. dollars), compared with 2.175 billion euros in the same period last year. EBITDA profit was 602 million euros, compared with 439 million euros in the same period last year.
Arkema Group (Arkema) announced the results of the second quarter of 2021. Sales in the second quarter were 2.395 billion euros (approximately 2.81 billion US dollars), compared with 1.902 billion euros in the same period last year. EBITDA profit was 478 million euros, compared with 286 million euros in the same period last year.
Henkel's sales in the first half of 2021 were 9.926 billion euros, an increase of 4.7% from the same period last year. Among them, sales in the second quarter were 4.958 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 8.8%. Adjusted operating profit (adjusted EBIT) increased from 1.191 billion euros in the first half of last year to 1.430 billion euros, an increase of 20.1%. In the first half of the year, sales of the adhesive technology business were 4.752 billion euros, and 2.394 billion euros (approximately US$2.81 billion) in the second quarter. The cosmetics/beauty products business had sales of 1.839 billion euros in the first half of the year and 914 million euros in the second quarter. The detergent and home care business had sales of 3.275 billion euros in the first half of the year and 1.619 billion euros in the second quarter.
DSM announced its results for the second quarter and first half of 2021. In the second quarter, sales were 2.294 billion euros (approximately 2.69 billion US dollars), compared with 2.02 billion euros in the same period last year. Sales in the first half of the year were 4.488 billion euros, compared with 4.065 billion euros in the same period last year. The current EBITDA profit was 879 million euros, compared with 683 million euros in the same period last year. In the first half of the year, the group's net profit was 1.01 billion euros, compared with 270 million euros in the same period last year.
Specialty chemicals company LANXESS (LANXESS) announced its results for the second quarter of 2021. Sales increased from 1.436 billion euros last year to 1.831 billion euros (approximately 2.15 billion US dollars), an increase of 27.5%. Net income from continuing operations was significantly lower than the previous year’s 803 million euros, only 77 million euros. Sales of the high-quality intermediates business segment reached 505 million euros, 17.4% higher than the previous year's 430 million euros. Special additives business segment sales increased from 442 million euros to 568 million euros, an increase of 28.5%. Consumer protection business segment sales increased from 301 million euros to 314 million euros, an increase of 4.3%. Sales of the engineering materials business segment increased from 244 million euros to 424 million euros, an increase of 73.8%.
Firmenich, a privately-owned flavor and fragrance company, announced its full-year (52-week) results as of June 30, 2021. Revenue reached 4.272 billion Swiss francs (approximately 4.61 billion US dollars). Based on the financial data of the reporting period, revenue increased by 10.2% year-on-year. EBITDA was 874 million Swiss francs, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%. The income of fragrance and fragrance materials business naturally increased by 4.4%, and the income of edible flavor business naturally increased by 5.2%.
