Explosion Accident in Jiangsu Province on March 21
At about 14:00 on March 21, an explosion occurred at Tianjiayi Chemical CO., LTD in Chenjiagang Chemical Industrial Park, Xiangshui County, Yancheng, jiangsu Province. The company is a pesticide manufacturer. The explosion occurred at one of the plant’s production facilities and was caused by benzene, shattering numerous windows of nearby residential areas and schools and damaging dozens of cars parking in the vicinity of the company. The explosion has caused 78 deaths, among which 56 have been identified. Five hundred and twenty wounds have been hospitalized, among which 8 are in deadly danger and 46 are injured severely.

Explosive Source: The Warehouse, Not Benzene Tanks
According to the facility map of Tianjiayi Chemical Co.,Ltd, Google digital map and aerial map, the location of the huge pit formed by the explosion is highly coincident with the solid waste warehouse and the area in front of the warehouse, east of which is the company’s gas station of .The site of the pit was previously an open area used as a warehouse for storing solid waste. The distillation residue in the solid waste are aniline tar, which looks like pitch and is inflammable. The place that exploded is probably the solid waste warehouse on the west side of the plant.

Data shows that the solid waste storage capacity of Tianjiayi Chemical Co., Ltd is up to 1078 cubic meters, which is used to store the waste liquid and solid waste produced in the factory. In addition, there is also a hazardous waste storage yard, with an annual output of 4,500 tons. There are also incinerators for solid waste and waste liquid, burning 4500 tons of waste per year.

On March 21 afternoon, an explosion occurred at Tianjiayi Chemical Co., Ltd. in Jiangsu Province, which has drawn great attention. The explosion has affected a number of listed companies, among which are Jiangnan High Polymer Fiber, Anoky Group, Lianhetech, Hifichem, and Wuzhong Group. How much will they be affected?

Security Inspections in over 70 areas
In Jiangsu Province, 4 subsidiaries of Tianjiayi have shut down, 3 enterprises in Suqian have been ordered to stop production for rectification. In Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, 105 enterprises have been rectified. In Weifang, Shandong Province,6 enterprises have relocated or shut down, and the emergency department of the Province has supervised the production of nitro compounds, penalized 2 enterprises and stopped production and rectified 3 enterprises.

The national work safety inspection has been fully carried out, thousands of chemical enterprises involved. Up to now, the inspection has swept 73 areas including Jinhua and Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province, Shanxi Province, Jingzhou, Hongjiang, Binzhou, and Shaoyang in Hunan Province, Anqing, Woyang County, and Dangtu County in Anhui Province, Muyang County in Jiangsu Province, Gaoyi County in Hebei Province, Guang’an and Zhongjiang County in Sichuan Province, Xiaochang in Hubei Province, Jiangxi Province, Zoucheng in Shandong Province, Tongliao in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Fuzhou in Fujian Province.

Sixteen chemical companies shut down, shocking the chemical market
Tianjiayi in Jiangsu Province is the second largest manufacturer of m-phenylenediamine in China. The explosion will affect the market capacity of m-phenylenediamine by about 25%, which will directly lead to the crazy price increase of a variety of raw materials. Prices of some raw materials even doubled; some raw material suppliers are even in short supply and thus stop quoting.
