Ningxia Much Action to Guarantee Rural Drinking Water Safety

The reporter learned from the Ningxia Department of Ecological Environment that the Ningxia Department of Ecological Environment and the Agricultural and Rural Department jointly issued a plan to strengthen the protection of rural drinking water sources and ensure the safety of rural drinking water by delimiting water source protection areas, strengthening water quality monitoring and investigating water source environmental risks. In order to strengthen the monitoring of rural drinking water quality, the governments of Ningxia municipalities and counties (districts) will organize relevant units to monitor and evaluate the safety status of drinking water sources, water supply units, water quality of user taps in their respective administrative areas, implement the whole process control from source to tap, and supply more than 1000 tons of drinking water to the population of 10,000 people or daily. Water sources are monitored quarterly. In addition, in view of the environmental risks of rural drinking water sources, Ningxia will conduct a comprehensive investigation of chemical, paper-making, smelting, pharmaceutical and other risk sources that may affect the environmental safety of rural drinking water sources, as well as domestic sewage, garbage, livestock and poultry breeding, establish a checklist, clean up and rectify the problems, and resolutely dismantle the sewage outlets in the reserve according to law. Or close down, strictly prohibit illegal sewage discharge, to ensure the safety of drinking water.
