There was panic selling in the financial markets of many countries around the world, and the stock market fell sharply yesterday.
European and American stock markets fell across the board. The European 50 index fell close to 4% at one time, and the Dow Jones futures fell nearly 800 points at one time. As of today’s close, the three major U.S. indexes have fallen collectively. The Dow has fallen 2.53%, a cumulative decline of 1.97% this week; the S&P 500 index has fallen 2.27%, the largest decline since February, with a cumulative decline of 2.2% this week; the Nasdaq has fallen 2.23 %, fell 3.52% this week.
Asia-Pacific stock markets also fell collectively. The Japanese stock market fell sharply, with the Nikkei 255 index tumbled 2.53%, and the Tokyo stock index fell 2.01%. Kuaishou fell more than 8%, and Alibaba fell more than 4%.
Due to market concerns that the new super new coronavirus variant will drag down the global economic recovery and affect demand, international oil prices have plummeted by more than 10%. New York crude oil has fallen below $70 per barrel for the first time since the end of September, a decrease of 13.04%. It returned to 3 months ago overnight. ; Brent crude oil approached 70 yuan/barrel, a drop of 11.27%; the main Shanghai crude oil futures contract fell by 8.01% to 464.1 yuan/barrel last night.
Under the global panic, the surge in demand for safe-haven spurred the rise of several multinational bonds. Corresponding to the decline in yields, the price of German government bonds soared, and the yield of 10-year government bonds fell by 6 basis points to -0.31%. The price increase of Italian government bonds expanded, with 10-year government bond yields falling by 5 basis points to 1%.
India's 10-year government bond yield fell 5 basis points to 6.32%. The US 10-year Treasury bond yield also reversed this week's gains and fell to 1.5448%. After Fed Chairman Powell was nominated for re-election, it rose to a nearly one-month high of 1.65%.
Safe-haven assets such as the yen and gold rebounded. The yen rose about 0.94% to 114.25 against the dollar, and gold rose 1.1% to US$1808.51 per ounce.
