Evante Launches Nymaxtm Bio Low Absorbency And Bio-Based Polyamide Formulation

ECHEMI 2022-03-21

On 16 March, Evante launched the new Nymax™ BIO formulation, a family of bio-based polyamide materials that will help customers achieve their sustainability goals. The new material solves the challenge that many bio-based polyamide materials currently on the market do not meet the required water absorption rate.

Nymax BIO materials are available in both glass-filled and unfilled formulations and contain between 16% and 47% natural fillers made from renewable plants (maize, straw or wheat). The carbon footprint of renewable plant materials has been proven to be much lower than that of commonly used petroleum-based materials.

These bio-based materials have a lower warpage and better surface appearance and colouration than traditional PA66 glass-filled materials, and Nymax BIO's low-absorbent polyamide formulations are dimensionally stable and long-lasting, solving the problem of water absorption (hygroscopicity) in finished parts.

Xu Tao, General Manager of Evante's Asia Pacific Specialty Engineering Materials Division, said: "Consumer brands are very conscious of sustainability and most of them have initiatives to implement environmentally friendly products. We have a long-standing commitment to developing new sustainable materials and the Nymax BIO bio-based polyamide range of formulations is the latest product we have launched, offering design engineers more options while reducing the risk of water absorption."

Nymax BIO materials are suitable for automotive, consumer, industrial, building and construction applications and are suitable for injection moulding and extrusion processes. They can also be custom designed for specific performance needs such as laser welding and flame retardancy.

Nymax BIO formulations are currently produced in Asia and are available worldwide.
