Shenzhen is the most economically competitive city in succession

Hong Kong media said that on June 24, the Institute of Financial and Economic Strategies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences released the 17th Report on China's Urban Competitiveness. According to the report, Shenzhen was elected the most economically competitive city in China for the fifth consecutive year in 2018, but Hong Kong is ahead in terms of livability, business and sustainable competitiveness.
According to the website of the Hong Kong South China Morning Post on June 24, Shenzhen surpassed Hong Kong in 2014 and became the most economically competitive city in China. Since then, it has been ranked first and Hong Kong second.
It is reported that the list was compiled by the Institute of Financial Strategies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, covering 293 cities in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. The other three cities in the top five are Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing. In the list of livable cities, Shenzhen ranks eighth, behind Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Macao.
The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said that the list aims to provide a common reference for government departments and investors to help them make decisions.
In the world competitiveness ranking published by the Swiss Institute for International Management and Development in 2018, Hong Kong ranked second among 63 economies, second only to the United States, while mainland China and Taiwan ranked 13th and 17th respectively. The report of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences also found that the economic competitiveness gap between southern and northern cities in China continued to widen, with the average ranking of northern cities falling by 6.2 places, while that of southern cities rising by 5.4 places.
