On March 20, a container ship with a capacity of 4578TEU named "DYROS" fell into the water and lost many containers in the southeast of Kamchatka Peninsula in the North Pacific.

At the time of the incident, the ship "DYROS" was on its way from Yantian Port to Seattle. After the container was lost in the water, the container ship continued to sail south of Unalashka, Alaska, at 1400 UTC. The exact cause of the accident is not known.

The ship "DYROS" was deployed on the Maersk TP7 service route. At the time of the incident, it was carrying out voyage 209N, which involved ALIANÇA, HAMBURG SÜD, MAERSK, MCC, and SEAGO shipping companies sharing cabins.

The ship departed from Asia, calling at Qingdao Port on March 8, Shanghai Port on March 10-11, Yantian Port on March 13-14, and then directly to Seattle Port.

Maersk confirmed that its chartered vessel "Dyros" lost about 90 containers, including nine boxes of dangerous goods, in severe weather in the North Pacific about 1,200 nautical miles east of Japan on Monday. The Costamare-owned 4,578TEU vessel traveled from Yantian to Seattle but will now be diverted to another port to handle the roughly 100 damaged boxes still on board.

Maersk said: “It is with regret to confirm that approximately 90 containers of the 4,578 TEU chartered and operated by Maersk-operated Liberian-flagged vessel ‘Dyros’ fell into the water in the Western Pacific Ocean due to severe weather on March 21. Nine containers Labeled dangerous goods, equipment with lithium-ion batteries." About 100 containers were damaged, a Maersk representative said.

While no crew was injured, Danish Shipping could not confirm which port the ship would now sail to, an issue still under discussion, but added: "The ship is able to continue sailing and is heading to a safe port."

Insurance claims adviser WK Webster said the full extent of the loss of cargo on board and any physical damage to containers still on board may not be known until after berthing. WK Webster will arrange to confirm the "level of damage" once the vessel (expected) arrives at its designated safe port on Sunday. In addition, WK Webster expects that the accident will lead to recovery problems.

Maersk added: "Crew, ship and operational safety are paramount and we are working closely with ship management as this is a very serious incident and will be thoroughly investigated to minimise the risk of similar incidents in the future."
