Distribution of intestinal flora and fat is 'different between men and women'

The waist and abdomen "swimming circle" has become the trouble of many beauty lovers. With the deepening of scientific research, scientists have found that this part of fat is closely related to the occurrence of chronic diseases. Recently, Professor Zhu Shankuan, School of Public Health, Medical College of Zhejiang University, and the research team of the Center for Preventive Research, Stanford University, USA, published the latest research results in the International Journal Nature Newsletter, explaining the complex relationship between intestinal flora and fat distribution in different genders. From the outline, obesity can be roughly divided into two types: pear type and apple type. Among them, Apple type obesity refers to excessive accumulation of abdominal fat. Current scientific research has confirmed the relationship between intestinal flora and obesity, but the relationship between intestinal flora and fat distribution and the differences between different genders are still unclear. The Chinese and surgical research team led by Zhu Shankuan selected 222 people as the research object. The research perspective was deep into the taxa level, and the pear and apple populations were divided into four groups for research and observation. Researchers found that the relationship between intestinal flora and fat distribution showed significant gender differences. In this three-year study, researchers screened 20 Taxas related to fat distribution from hundreds of high-abundance taxas, including 13 males and 7 females. No significant taxa overlap was found between males and females. It is worth noting that the same two genus of bacteria, Holdemanella and Gemmiger, originated from different flora types, which showed opposite relationship with fat distribution in men and women. This study shows that in different sex groups, the same bacteria may have different relationships with fat distribution due to the differences in the composition of bacteria. Zhu Shankuan said that this study has a very important role in the study of diabetes, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and other chronic diseases related to abdominal obesity. Gender differences in intestinal flora should be taken into account in the study of these related diseases.
