4. How Do You Make Sodium Acetate: Boil Until All Water Evaporates
This step doesn't need to be exact. Just make sure you can no longer see any water on top of your sodium acetate crystals. You want them all dry at this point. Add more water if necessary and put it back over heat until everything has evaporated again. The evaporation process is what helps dry out your sodium acetate crystals and give them their clear, glass-like look and feel. If you don't evaporate all of your water, your sodium acetate will remain a yellowish or brownish color instead of being clear like window glass (not very appealing). 5. Let Cool And Package Into Small Jars With Label
You're done! You now have a very safe, easy-to-use, long-lasting, odorless, and (for all intents and purposes) tasteless mold inhibitor that is inexpensive. If you're making lots of soaps or candles with scents you'd rather not smell day after day, then you might want to double up on your sodium acetate. After all, it's cheap enough! Because sodium acetate makes soap harder but doesn't alter its color too much (and actually makes colors more vibrant), it works really well for soap makers who use lots of colors that turn brownish over time because of oxidation.
