How to extract evening primrose oil and its uses
Extracting evening primrose oil is nothing new. It has been used as a supplement to treat many different health conditions. However, there are concerns about the safety of taking evening primrose oil to treat skin cancer, as its effectiveness has not been proven. It's also common knowledge that drug companies are more interested in making money than helping people live healthier lives.
How do you get evening primrose oil?
1. Using a mortar and pestle, grind about 1/2 cup of primrose blossoms. This can also be done in a blender, coffee grinder, or food processor.
2. Grind the flowers until you have a teaspoon of the powdered substance
3. Now add about half a cup of olive oil (or something similar with as high a smoke point as possible) to the flower powder.
4. Mix the flower powder and oil with your hands until completely combined. The oil should be completely cloudy at this point, indicating that the primrose has dissolved in the oil
5. Pour the mixture into a large glass bowl and place on a sunny windowsill. Stir every few hours and let the mixture sit for at least a week.
6. After a week, strain the oil through 2 layers of cheesecloth or several layers of pantyhose to remove any large bits that may have settled to the bottom. So you get an amber colored oil that is ready to use! Therefore, extracting evening primrose oil can be very helpful.
Use of evening primrose oil
1. Lowers high blood pressure
It has been shown that there is an inverse relationship between evening primrose oil intake and blood pressure. It has proven to be averagely effective. That is why it is used in many countries, especially in Germany, to treat high blood pressure.
2. Reduce or prevent inflammation
The omega-6 essential fatty acids in evening primrose are converted by our bodies into prostaglandins, which are involved in reducing inflammation and pain. This makes it a great supplement for anyone suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions.
3. Improving skin health
Evening primrose oil contains vitamins A, D and F, which contribute to skin health.
Vitamin A, derived from lutein, is a powerful antioxidant that helps prevent UV damage.
Vitamin D and F contribute to healthy skin by replacing lost oils and are essential for the production of cell membranes. (Note: Vitamin A also improves skin health)
4. Prevent heart disease and stroke
For as long as you can remember, your mother or grandmother has been telling you how important it is for you to eat your carrots for good health. This was probably because the body cannot produce vitamin A itself. So we have to get it through our diet. Carrots are also a great source of vitamin D and F found in other leafy greens. These vitamins have been linked to preventing heart disease and stroke.
5. Improve and reduce pain in rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, bursitis, gout and back pain.
Evening primrose oil contains essential fatty acids that help fight inflammation as mentioned in Section 2. The oil also contains linoleic acid, which has been shown to reduce pain associated with these conditions by releasing endorphins and enkephalins in the brain. Chemicals that make us feel good (and less painful).
6. Reduce skin cancer cell growth
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. It is also one of the most treatable as it can be removed early before it spreads very widely and becomes fatal. Studies have shown that evening primrose oil reduces skin cell growth through apoptosis, the normal, natural death of a cell. This makes it one of the best supplements for preventing skin cancer.
7. Reduce inflammation and pain from psoriasis and eczema
Psoriasis and eczema are two conditions that can cause severe itching and pain. These symptoms are caused by the inflammation of the skin and underlying tissues. Evening primrose oil contains beta-carotene, which is converted to vitamin A in the body, making it an excellent supplement for both of these conditions.
In summary, evening primrose oil is available over the counter but is often overhyped as a cure for all your ailments. If you suffer from any of the conditions listed above and would like to try evening primrose oil, by all means do so. extracting evening primrose oil is therefore helpful.
