Will 5.5m coke oven in Shandong Province be demolished in recent years?

In order to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of the coking industry in Shandong Province and achieve high-quality development, Shandong Province recently released the draft of opinions on suspending the elimination of 5.5m tamping coke oven by 2025. The document initially points out that the elimination of 5.5m tamping coke oven by 2025 will be suspended. The official document is expected to be released in the near future. According to the analysis of the current situation in Shandong Province, 5.5m coke oven will not be removed in recent years. It is estimated that in 2025, there will be no more than 20 coking enterprises in Shandong, with 70% of the production capacity in the main coal production area and the agglomeration area of iron and steel enterprises, and 100% of the production capacity of 5.5 and above coke ovens.
At present, the transformation and upgrading objectives of the coking industry in Shandong Province: control the total capacity of the coking industry, reasonably allocate resources, optimize the existing capacity, and prohibit new capacity. As early as the beginning of July, Shandong Province has issued the guidance on strictly controlling the total coal consumption and promoting clean and efficient utilization. It is pointed out that in about five years, the coal consumption of the whole province will strive for a net reduction of 50 million tons. In addition, it is required to formulate and issue the total capacity reduction, transformation and upgrading plan of the whole province's coking industry before the end of July, and make it clear that the coking capacity will be reduced by 10.31 million tons in 2019, 6.55 million tons in 2020, and 16.86 million tons in two years. At that time, this plan caused more discussion. By the end of 2020, 26 key coal consuming enterprises will reduce the coal consumption by 29 million tons. In addition, 24 coking enterprises are required to reduce the coking capacity by 16.86 million tons as soon as possible, and the reduction task in 2020 is expected to be completed before the end of April (led by the Provincial Department of industry and information technology and in the charge of relevant district and municipal governments), which puts forward higher requirements for the speed of coking capacity elimination. According to the statistics of public data, the coking capacity of Shandong Province is about 58 million tons. By July 25, 2019, Shandong Province has eliminated about 1.4 million tons in the year.
