Brazil locked in a suspected ship of coastal oil pollution
Brazil's government announced that a Greek oil tanker was the most suspected target of two months of crude oil pollution off the coast of Brazil. According to the information released by the police and the military, the Greek flagged oil tanker shipped crude oil in Venezuela on July 15, leaving for South Africa and Singapore a few days later. The investigators concluded that the oil pollution came from the sea area about 700 kilometers away from the coast of Brazil from July 28 to 29. They analyzed ocean and location data and found that the suspected tanker was the only vessel sailing in that area at that time. At first, investigators included more than 1000 ships in the survey, gradually reduced them to dozens, and finally locked the Greek ship. Police in Brazil have searched sites linked to a Greek company. The crude oil pollution appeared in early September, which has affected more than 2000 kilometers of coastal areas in Northeast Brazil. As of October 29, the pollution reached 9 states and 94 cities. The amount of sludge removed from the beach has reached 2000 tons. The Brazilian attorney general's office said the damage to Brazil's coastal areas caused by the oil pollution was "immeasurable".
