ExxonMobil on the Road Back After Harvey

Exxon Mobil said it is in the early stages of restarting the nation's second-largest oil refinery in Baytown, although its Beaumont refinery remains shut because of Harvey's floodwaters.

Hurricane Harvey knocked out more than 20 percent of the nation's refining capacity, but even hard-hit areas like Baytown and Port Arthur are beginning to come back.

"Our teams have been working around the clock to restore operations as quickly and safely as possible so we can supply fuels to our customers," said Darren Woods, Exxon Mobil chairman and chief executive officer.

The massive Baytown complex had some damage, like a partially collapsed roof on one storage tank, but Exxon Mobil hasn't identified other significant issues yet.

Apart from the oil refineries, Exxon Mobil said its Houston fuel terminals are again supplying gasoline and diesel, and that it's making "significant progress" in restarting its petrochemical, pipelines and logistical networks in the Houston area.

Exxon Mobil said it is delaying maintenance work at its other refineries to continue supplying as much fuel as possible to a nation's facing price spikes and gasoline shortages in some areas.

The nation's largest energy company also said its offshore Gulf of Mexico activities are returning to normal, although the industry is keeping an eye on Hurricane Irma.
