ECHEMI 2022-07-29

Bayport Polymers, a joint venture between Total Energy and Borealis, announced the start of commercial operation of a new ethane cracker with a capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum of ethylene.

The nearly $2 billion project is located at the Total Energy Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, and is operated by Total Energy's Port Arthur Refinery.

Ethylene produced by the cracker will be used as feedstock for Baystar's existing polyethylene unit, as well as the new Borsta(R) Technology polyethylene unit currently under construction in Bayport, Texas.
