Mitsubishi Chemical Announces Expansion of Advanced Carbon Fiber Production Capacity in Japan and the United States

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation has decided to increase its carbon fiber production capacity in Japan and the United States to meet growing demand from high-end applications such as sports and leisure, aerospace, and supercars.

In recent years, as industries continue to pursue lightweight and high-performance products, demand for carbon fiber in premium application fields has steadily expanded. In response to this strong market demand, Mitsubishi Chemical plans to effectively utilize its existing facilities in Japan and the United States to boost production of high-performance carbon fiber.

The capacity expansion will take place at the Tokai Plant in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, and the Sacramento plant in California, USA. Production capacity will be increased in stages from 2025 to 2027, ultimately doubling the current capacity.

Mitsubishi Chemical noted that its carbon fiber products offer excellent strength and elastic modulus, fully meeting the stringent quality standards required by leading customers, making them ideally suited for high-end applications.

Looking ahead, the company will continue to capitalize on market growth opportunities, create and deliver value to customers, and pursue further profit growth by focusing on high value-added businesses.
