Chemical industry should not ignore the safety of industrial oxidation

Experts at the meeting called on the chemical industry to pay attention to the safety issues behind industrial oxidation technology. "According to statistics, at least 50% of chemical products in the chemical industry involve oxidation." He Mingyuan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of Chemistry Department of East China Normal University, said in an interview with science and technology daily. The reporter learned from the meeting that oxidation is an important way to produce bulk chemical raw materials and organic synthesis intermediates, and plays an extremely important role in the modern chemical industry. For example, oxidation of hydrocarbons has been used to produce key monomers such as synthetic fibers, resins and rubbers. The polymer materials have been widely used in many fields, such as aerospace, electronics, transportation, advanced manufacturing, medical equipment and so on. Zong Baoning, deputy chief engineer of China Academy of petroleum and chemical sciences and director of Sinopec Key Laboratory of bio liquid fuels, told reporters that bulk chemical products generally involve industrial oxidation.
At present, industrial oxidation is faced with two outstanding problems: in addition to chemical by-products or chemical pollution, it is a safety problem. In fact, industrial oxidation technology plays an important role in chemical safety. "Many chemicals contain carbon and hydrogen. The first step in the process of making chemicals is oxidation. And oxygen is very active. It can not only support combustion, but also self ignite under certain conditions, so it is easy to cause combustion or explosion. " He Mingyuan said. He Mingyuan thinks that at present, some key industrial oxidation technologies have been mastered in China, but in terms of the safety of industrial oxidation technology, people's awareness in the past is not enough, and much work needs to be done. Therefore, from academia to industry, we need to pay more attention to the safety issues related to industrial oxidation technology. "Academic circles may pay more attention to the development of new oxidation reactions, but few people are engaged in the safety research of industrial oxidation technology." According to he Mingyuan, in order to develop a chemical product, there should be a comprehensive experimental report or result appraisal for the safety problems contained in it. In other words, we should not only pay attention to the chemical reaction itself, but also pay attention to the safety issues behind the chemical reaction. "In recent years, researchers have developed many new oxidation reactions, but the safety issues involved in these oxidation reactions have not attracted enough attention. In recent years, some chemical accidents have made the chemical industry pay more and more attention to it. " Zong Baoning said. He Mingyuan suggested that in terms of industrial oxidation technology, the domestic chemical industry should strengthen the relevant management and training of operators, in addition, there should be special research institutions and management institutions to protect the safety of industrial oxidation technology. Zong Baoning pointed out that in the field of domestic chemical industry, the combination of production, learning and research should be strengthened in the aspect of industrial oxidation technology to solve the core technical problems related to industrial oxidation safety.
