Low-energy diet is an effective weight management method

2022-09-09

According to a study published in 2021 by the authoritative international journal The Lancet, more than half of Chinese adults are already overweight or obese, with an overweight rate of 34.3% and an obesity rate of 16.4% among the adult population (≥18 years old). The obesity situation among children is even worse, because they are gaining weight "faster". According to the study, one fifth of children and adolescents aged 6-17 years and one tenth of children under 6 years are overweight or obese, and their obesity is growing significantly faster than that of adults.

The negative impact of obesity is not only a change in appearance, but also a health problem that people cannot avoid. Since the 21st century, although the world is advocating the battle against obesity, but in the face of the temptation of food, it is obviously a huge challenge to refuse obesity, which is also the root cause of the high global obesity rate.

In July 2021, the Food Standards Australia and New Zealand issued Notice 164-21, in which application A1230, proposed to include very low-calorie diet food into special medical use food. 2022 March, the regulation has been officially approved.

Low GI foods are foods that make blood sugar rise slowly to avoid excessive energy storage into fat and subsequently avoid gaining weight. However, the low GI value of many foods may also be caused by fats or certain unfriendly fructose, so meal replacement foods and low GI foods are not yet comparable to a standardized very low energy diet, but as a transitional product, they are still very friendly to the public.

Throughout the market, the concept of very low-calorie diet has been widely accepted, and the related products are about to come into the public eye, and their potential market cannot be underestimated.
