Gout is a recurrent inflammatory disease caused by increased uric acid production or poor uric acid excretion, resulting in increased uric acid in the blood, and deposition of urate crystals in the synovium, bursa, cartilage and other tissues of the joints. The first attack often invades a single joint, and the first metatarsophalangeal joint is often affected. It manifests as redness, swelling, burning, tenderness and limited function of the joint. Typical attacks are as follows: the pain reaches its peak within 24 hours; it is relieved within 14 days; there are generally no obvious sequelae after the acute arthritis is relieved. This disease is characterized by the presence of birefringent monohydrate sodium urate crystals in joint fluid and tophi. Its clinical features are: characteristic acute arthritis, tophi, and interstitial nephritis caused by hyperuricemia and urate crystals and deposition. In severe cases, joint deformities and dysfunction are seen, often accompanied by uric acid urinary tract stones. It is more common in obese middle-aged and elderly men and postmenopausal women. With economic development and changes in lifestyle, its prevalence has gradually increased.
