Convulsion is a common emergency in children, especially in infants and young children. It is caused by a variety of reasons that lead to brain nerve dysfunction. It manifests as sudden tonic and clonic convulsions of the whole body or local muscle groups, often accompanied by impaired consciousness. The incidence of convulsions in children is very high. According to statistics, the incidence of convulsions in children under 6 years old is about 10 to 15 times that of adults, and about 5 to 6% of children have had one or more convulsions. The reasons are: the development of the cerebral cortex of infants and young children is not perfect, so the analysis, identification and inhibition functions are poor; the myelin sheath of nerves is not fully formed, the insulation and protection are poor, and after stimulation, the excitement impulse is easy to generalize; the immune function is low, and it is easy to be infected and cause convulsions; the blood-brain barrier function is poor, and various toxins can easily penetrate the brain tissue; some special diseases such as birth injuries, brain development defects and congenital metabolic abnormalities are more common, which are all the reasons for the high incidence of convulsions in infants and young children. Frequent attacks or persistent states of convulsions are life-threatening or can leave serious sequelae to the child, affecting the intellectual development and health of children.
