Acquired arteriovenous fistula
An abnormal channel between an artery and a vein is called an arteriovenous fistula. Acquired arteriovenous fistulas are often caused by trauma, or by infection caused by ruptured aneurysms. As blood from the artery flows into the accompanying vein, it can cause local vascular lesions in the fistula and changes in the hemodynamics of the local, peripheral, and systemic circulation.
