Atrioventricular canal malformation
Atrioventricular canal malformation, formerly known as endocardial cushion defect, ostium 1 defect, atrioventricular common channel, or primary foramen defect, is a series of congenital heart malformations caused by incomplete development of septum 1 and endocardium. The main lesion is the partial loss of atrial and ventricular septal tissue above and below the atrioventricular ring, and may be accompanied by varying degrees of atrioventricular valve malformation. Atrioventricular canal malformation is rare, accounting for only 5% of all types of atrial septal defect cases.
