Inguinal hernia in adults
Adult inguinal hernia is different from pediatric inguinal hernia. Adult inguinal hernia is formed after the processus vaginalis of the peritoneum is completely occluded due to the weakness of the internal ring. The hernia sac enters the inguinal canal through the weak point on its posterior wall instead of in the spermatic cord. It is an acquired hernia, so it is also called acquired inguinal hernia. Adult inguinal hernia is sometimes difficult to distinguish from direct hernia, especially in cases with a long medical history and a large hernial orifice.
