Infectious mononucleosis
Infectious mononucleosis is an acute proliferative disease of the mononuclear-macrophage system, and the course of the disease is often self-limited. Clinically, it manifests as irregular fever, lymphadenopathy, sore throat, a significant increase in peripheral blood monocytes, abnormal lymphocytes, positive heterophil agglutination test, and anti-EB virus antibodies can be detected in the serum. About half of young and adult people with primary EB virus infection present with infectious mononucleosis. Burkittis lymphoma (BL) and nasopharyngeal carcinoma in African children only occur in patients who have been infected with EB virus, and the tumor cells of BL and nasopharyngeal carcinoma carry EB virus DNA and virus-determined nuclear antigens, so it is believed that EB virus may be an important pathogenic factor of BL and nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
