Pediatric infective endocarditis refers to inflammatory lesions of the endocardium caused by various reasons, often involving heart valves, ventricular septal defects, endocardial lining or patent ductus arteriosus, arteriovenous fistula, etc. It can be divided into two categories according to the cause: infectious and non-infectious. Non-infectious endocarditis includes: rheumatic endocarditis, rheumatoid endocarditis, systemic lupus erythematosus endocarditis, neonatal acute symptomatic endocarditis, etc. This article mainly describes infective endocarditis. Infective endocarditis was often divided into two types: acute and subacute. Acute cases often occur in children without heart disease. The invading bacteria are more virulent, with an acute onset and rapid progression, and the course of the disease is within 6 weeks. Subacute cases are mostly infected with less virulent bacteria on the basis of existing heart disease. The onset is latent, the progression is relatively slow, and the course of the disease exceeds 6 weeks.
