Herpes simplex scleritis
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection can cause scleritis or episcleritis. Episcleritis is caused by direct viral invasion during active HSV infection, while scleritis is caused by direct viral invasion during active HSV infection or by the immune response produced by the virus several days after the first viral infection.
