Secondary thrombocythemia
Secondary thrombocythemia is mainly seen in chronic infection, malignant tumors, acute blood loss, hemolytic anemia, reaction to surgical drugs and connective tissue disease leading to excessive platelet production. It is generally asymptomatic, but some patients may have thrombosis. It can be diagnosed when the peripheral platelet count is higher than normal>400×109/L.
