Methemoglobinemia is divided into two types: toxic and hereditary. Toxic methemoglobinemia is caused by drugs and oxidants. Methemoglobin is chocolate brown in color. Toxic methemoglobinemia sometimes has severe symptoms and requires emergency injection of methylene blue.
