Acne, commonly known as pimples, blackheads, and dark pimples, was called facial sores and wine pimples in ancient Chinese medicine. It is a chronic inflammatory disease of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Its occurrence is closely related to factors such as excessive sebum after puberty, blockage of the hair follicles and sebaceous gland ducts, secondary bacterial infection and inflammatory response. Its main manifestations are whiteheads and blackheads of skin color, or inflammatory papules, nodules, and cysts. In severe cases, abscesses are formed, and even rupture and pus is discharged. About 85% of adolescents have had acne, so acne is commonly known as "acne". Although most acne begins to ease before the age of 25, it is not exclusive to young people; late-onset acne is also called "post-adolescent acne", which refers to acne that occurs after the age of 25. It is not uncommon. About 12% of female adolescent acne and 3% of male acne will continue to last until they are over 40 years old; there are also those who do not have acne before the age of 25, but start to have acne afterwards.
