Bladder neck obstruction in women
Female bladder neck obstruction, also known as bladder neck sclerosis (or Marion disease), has a complex etiology and pathogenesis, and there is currently no unified understanding. It may be caused by hyperplasia of bladder neck fibrous tissue, hypertrophy of bladder neck muscles, sclerosis caused by chronic inflammation, and hyperplasia of periurethral glands caused by hormonal imbalance in elderly women. Severe bladder neck obstruction can cause dysuria or even urinary retention, which can cause hydronephrosis in the long term, producing the same symptoms and results as male prostate hyperplasia.
