Methylprednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid. It enters the cell nucleus and binds to DNA after penetrating the cell membrane and binding to specific receptors in the cytoplasm, initiating the transcription of mRNA and synthesizing various enzyme proteins. The glucocorticoid-like effect of 4mg methylprednisolone is the same as that of 20mg hydrocortisone, and it has only a very low mineralocorticoid-like effect. In addition, it has the effect of decomposing proteins and fats and causes fat redistribution.
