Function and Efficacy

This product is an aminoglycoside antibiotic produced by Streptomyces spectabilis. It has high antibacterial activity against Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and also has good antibacterial activity against Neisseria gonorrhoeae that produces beta-lactamase; it has moderate antibacterial activity against many Enterobacteriaceae. Providencia and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are usually resistant to this product; strains resistant to this product are often still sensitive to streptomycin, gentamicin, tobramycin, etc. This product has a good effect on Ureaplasma urealyticum, and is inactive against Chlamydia trachomatis and Treponema pallidum. The mechanism of action of this product is to bind to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome and inhibit the synthesis of bacterial proteins.

Appearance

This product is white or off-white crystalline powder.

Indication

This product is mainly used for urethritis, prostatitis, cervicitis and rectal infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, as well as infections caused by strains resistant to penicillin, tetracycline, etc. Since most gonorrhea patients are also infected with Chlamydia trachomatis, treatment with this product should be followed by a 7-day course of tetracycline, doxycycline or erythromycin.

Usage and Dosage

Usage: For intramuscular injection only; before use, add 3.2ml (1 vial) of 0.9% benzyl alcohol injection to every 2g (1 vial) of this product, shake it to make it a suspension. Dosage: Adults: For cervical, rectal or urethral gonorrhea Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection, a single dose of 2g (1 vial) intramuscular injection; for disseminated gonorrhea, a single intramuscular injection of 2g (1 vial), once every 12 hours, for a total of 3 days. The maximum dose is 4g (2 vials), injected intramuscularly on both sides of the buttocks; Children: Contraindicated for newborns. For children weighing less than 45kg, a single dose of 40mg/kg is injected intramuscularly according to body weight; for those weighing more than 45kg, a single dose of 2g (1 vial) is injected intramuscularly once.

Adverse Reactions

Some patients may occasionally experience pain at the injection site, short-term dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and insomnia; occasionally fever, rash, and other allergic reactions, as well as decreased hemoglobin, hematocrit, decreased creatinine clearance, and increased alkaline phosphatase, urea nitrogen, and serum aminotransferase. There are also cases of decreased urine output.

Precautions

It is contraindicated for patients with a history of allergy to this product and aminoglycoside antibiotics and patients with kidney disease.

Special Population Medication

Precautions for children: 1. Since the diluent of this product contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, it may cause fatal wheezing syndrome in newborns, so it is contraindicated for newborns. 2. This product can be used for children with gonorrhea who are allergic to penicillins or cephalosporins. 3. This product uses benzyl alcohol as a solvent and is prohibited for intramuscular injection in children. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: 1. Precautions for pregnant women. 2. The use of this product in lactating women is not clear. If this product is used, breastfeeding should be suspended. Precautions for the elderly: This experiment has not been conducted and there are no reliable references.

Drug Interactions

According to literature reports, the combined use of this product with lithium carbonate may cause toxic effects of lithium carbonate in some patients.
