Ergonovine Maleate Injection

This product is a uterine contraction drug. It can directly act on the uterine smooth muscle, with a strong and lasting effect. A large dose can cause the uterine muscle to contract rigidly, and can compress the blood vessels in the uterine muscle at the placenta implantation site to stop bleeding. In the late pregnancy, the uterus becomes more sensitive to contraction drugs.

1. Mainly used for the prevention and treatment of uterine bleeding caused by weak or poor uterine contraction after delivery or abortion; 2. Used for incomplete uterine recovery after delivery and to accelerate uterine recovery.

0.2 mg is injected intramuscularly or intravenously at a time. If necessary, the injection can be repeated once every 2 to 4 hours, up to 5 times. For intravenous injection, it needs to be diluted and injected slowly for at least 1 minute.

1. Due to the short duration of medication for postpartum or post-abortion uterine bleeding, some adverse reactions of the drug are less common than other ergot alkaloids. However, when administered intravenously, headache, dizziness, tinnitus, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, palpitations, dyspnea, and bradycardia may occur; severe hypertension may also occur suddenly, which may improve or even disappear after taking chlorpromazine. 2. If used improperly, ergot poisoning may occur, manifested as persistent diarrhea, pale cold skin of the hands, feet and lower limbs, weak heartbeat, continuous vomiting, and convulsions.

If this product is used before the fetus is delivered, uterine tonic contraction may occur, resulting in fetal hypoxia or intracranial hemorrhage; if it is used before the placenta is detached and delivered, the placenta may be retained in the uterine cavity.

① Avoid using it with other ergot alkaloids; ② Do not use it with vasoconstrictors (including those contained in local anesthetic solutions); ③ Use it with pressors as there is a risk of severe hypertension or even cerebral vascular rupture; ④ Avoid excessive smoking as it may cause vasoconstriction or contracture.

Keep away from light, tightly closed, in a cool place.
