Function and Efficacy
This drug is a central antitussive drug that can inhibit the cough center in the medulla oblongata to produce an antitussive effect. Its antitussive effect is equal to or slightly stronger than that of codeine. The general therapeutic dose does not inhibit breathing, and long-term use is non-addictive and non-tolerant.
Ingredients
This product contains 6 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide as the main ingredient per milliliter. Excipients include: Tween-80, propylene glycol, xanthan gum, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, ethyl cellulose, purified water, sucrose, ethylparaben, disodium edetate, and spices.
Appearance
This product is a yellow suspension; it tastes sweet and has a thickening aroma.
Indication
Used for the symptomatic treatment of colds, pharyngitis and other upper respiratory tract diseases accompanied by dry cough.
Usage and Dosage
Oral administration. Shake thoroughly before taking. For adults and children over 12 years old, the usual dose is 10 ml twice a day; for children aged 6 to 12 years old, the usual dose is 5 ml twice a day; for children aged 2 to 6 years old, the usual dose is 2.5 ml twice a day.
Adverse Reactions
Symptoms include dizziness, headache, drowsiness, irritability, belching, lack of appetite, constipation, nausea, skin allergies, etc., but they do not affect the efficacy. The above reactions will disappear on their own after stopping the drug. Overdose can cause unconsciousness, bronchospasm, and respiratory depression.
Precautions
1. Women who are within 3 months of pregnancy, those with a history of mental illness, and breastfeeding women are prohibited from using this product. 2. Patients who have stopped taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors for less than two weeks are prohibited from using this product.
Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: Not yet clear. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: Not for use by women within 3 months of pregnancy and lactating women. Precautions for the elderly: Not yet clear.
Drug Interactions
1. Do not use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors and antidepressants. 2. This product should not be used with ethanol and other central nervous system depressants because it can enhance the inhibitory effect on the central nervous system. 3. If used with other drugs at the same time, drug interactions may occur. Please consult a doctor or pharmacist for details.
