Lipoic Acid Injection

Function and Efficacy

1. This product is widely used to treat diabetic neuropathy. In vitro tests show that this product can reduce lipid oxidation in nerve tissue, and this product may prevent protein glycosylation: and can inhibit aldose reductase, thereby preventing glucose or galactose from being converted into sorbitol. 2. Animal experiments suggest that lipoic acid can prevent the development of diabetes, promote the utilization of glucose, and prevent neuropathy caused by hyperglycemia. Lipoic acid is a strong antioxidant in both water-soluble and oil-soluble matrices. Both lipoic acid and its reduced form, dilipoic acid, can play an antioxidant role. They can directly or indirectly promote the regeneration of vitamin C and vitamin E in the body. Studies have shown that lipoic acid can increase the levels of glutathione and coenzyme Q10 in cells. 3. Lipoic acid can chelate certain metal ions (such as copper, manganese, and zinc) to form stable chelates. In animal models, it has been shown that it can protect against arsenic poisoning and reduce liver toxicity after chromium poisoning. In in vitro experiments, it was also found that mercury ions can be chelated from kidney slices. 4. This product is safe within the range of clinical dosage. LD50: 400-500mg/Kg for dogs when taken orally; for rats with severe vitamin B1 deficiency, 20mg/Kg was found to be lethal in intraperitoneal injection animal experiments. There is currently insufficient test data to ensure the safety of pregnant women. Clinical side effects are rare. Among the side effects that have been recorded, the main one is skin allergies, and the drug should be stopped at this time.

Appearance

This product is a yellow-green clear liquid.

Indication

It is mainly used for paresthesia caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).

Usage and Dosage

1. This product can be used for intravenous or intramuscular injection. The intravenous injection should be slow, with a maximum speed of 50 mg lipoic acid or 2 ml of this injection per minute. This product can also be added to normal saline for intravenous drip, such as 250-500 mg of lipoic acid, which is equivalent to 10-20 ml of injection added to 100-250 ml of normal saline, and the intravenous drip time is about 30 minutes. 2. People who are allergic to this product. Unless there is a special doctor's order, patients with severe sensory abnormalities caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy can be given intravenous drip, 300-600 mg per day, which is equivalent to 12-24 ml of this product. 2-4 weeks is a course of treatment. 3. For maintenance treatment, 200-300 mg of lipoic acid capsules can be taken orally every day, divided into two or three doses. 4. Because the active ingredient is sensitive to light, the ampoule should be taken out of the box before use.

Adverse Reactions

Too fast intravenous drip may occasionally cause headache and dyspnea, but they can be relieved by themselves. After using this product, very few patients have convulsions, diplopia, purpura and bleeding tendency caused by abnormal platelet function. Intramuscular injection may occasionally cause local allergic reactions at the injection site, manifested as urticaria or eczema, and systemic allergic reactions may also occur.
