What you must know when using lithium heparin

Lithium heparin anticoagulation is mainly to resist the formation and activity of thromboplastin and thromboplastin and prevent platelet aggregation. The blood collection process of the lithium heparin anticoagulation vacuum tube is fully enclosed, not easy to be contaminated, and the plasma precipitates faster, which greatly shortens the time for manual plasma separation and improves the detection speed. 

Lithium heparin has minimal chelating properties, minimal interference to water and relatively low cation concentration, so it is recommended to use anticoagulants for chemical measurements in blood or plasma tests. Lithium heparin basically contains no foreign ions, so it should not be used to test lithium in the blood.

What we must know when using lithium heparin:

1. In order to ensure sufficient blood anticoagulation, the heparin salt test tube must be inverted and mixed 5-8 times as soon as possible after the blood collection is completed. Especially when the blood collection environment temperature is higher than 25℃, the blood and heparin lithium must be mixed in time and fully, otherwise it will easily cause Blood clotting or local clotting.

2. Heparin anticoagulation is not irreversible anticoagulation, so the test should be completed within 6 hours after blood collection from the lithium heparin anticoagulation test tube, otherwise it may cause errors in the test results.

3. Heparin may participate in the metabolism of cell enzymes and ions, so the amount of heparin used may affect the test results. The added dosage of heparin should ensure the full and partial anticoagulation of the specimen, so as to ensure that most of the plasma indicators can be repeated within 6 hours, especially sensitive indicators such as AST, ALT, TBIL, DBIL, and GGT.

4. Lithium heparin can be used with separation gel at the same time, anticoagulation effect, tube wall siliconization, centrifugal conditions, separation gel quality, etc. will affect the blood separation effect. It is recommended to use with the blood separation gel produced by our company to obtain high-quality plasma samples.

5. Suggestion for irradiation sterilization after adding to blood collection tube: use gamma ray irradiation with a dose of 8-25kGy. The radiation dose can be determined by the initial colony count.

6. It is forbidden to use heparin lithium when there is foreign matter, abnormal smell, color and expiration date.

7. When the lithium heparin solution appears turbid, it may be that the lithium heparin solution has been infected or deteriorated. Please do not continue to use it.
