Product Detail

Potassium hydroxide solid is used as an intermediate in a wide range of manufacturing processes, from the production of other potassium compounds, pharmaceutical intermediates and fertilizers, to its use in production of alkaline batteries, semi-conductor, and so on.

KOH is a highly hygroscopic solid, so it attracts and holds water molecules from the surrounding environment, making it a useful laboratory desiccant (drying agent).

Solid KOH serves as a catalyst in bio-diesel production, as a water-softening agent in detergents and in the manufacture of optical and crystal glass, photographic compounds, latex rubber and dyes. In addition, potassium hydroxide solid is used to produce solvents for degreasing and cleaning, lubricant additives, corrosion inhibitors and in the creation of other potassium-based salts.

POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, SOLUTION is a strong base dissolved in water. Reacts exothermically with all acids. Slowly dissolves glass. Attacks aluminum and zinc to generate flammable hydrogen gas. Ignited a polyethylene container liner when mixed with potassium persulfate by release of heat and oxygen [MCA Case History 1155. 1955].
