      Yellow Phosphorus(P4)

    White phosphorus is a phosphorus elemental, the chemical formula is P4. The appearance is white or light yellow semi-transparent solid. Soft, cold brittle, see the light color becomes dark. Exposed air produces green phosphorescence and white smoke in the dark. Fire at about 40℃ in wet air and slightly higher in dry air.

    White phosphorus is very chemically active.

    There are at least 10 allotropes of phosphorus, mainly white phosphorus, red phosphorus and black phosphorus [1]. White phosphorus isolation air is heated to 533K to generate red phosphorus; In addition, under 1200MPa, white phosphorus can be transformed into black phosphorus by heating to 473K (it has layered network structure, can conduct electricity, and is the most stable among phosphorus allotropes).

    The difference between white phosphorus and red phosphorus is the ignition point and toxicity. White phosphorus has a lower ignition point than red phosphorus. White phosphorus generally burns at about 40℃, while red phosphorus can be burned at about 240℃. White phosphorus is highly toxic, while red phosphorus is virtually non-toxic. White phosphorus is transformed into red phosphorus by heating to 260℃ when air is isolated, and red phosphorus is transformed into white phosphorus by sublimation and condensation when air is isolated and heated to 416℃. The white phosphorus molecule has a tetrahedral structure, while the red phosphorus molecule has a chain structure.

    White phosphorus, while dangerous, has many uses. Commercially, white phosphorus is used to produce high purity phosphoric acid. White phosphorus is used to produce smoke (P4O10) and fog (P4O10 and water vapor form H3PO4 and other foglike substances), which is commonly used in military to make smoke bombs and incendiary bombs. It can also be used to manufacture red phosphorus (red phosphorus), tetraphosphate trisulfide (P4S3), organophosphate ester, incendiary bomb, rodenticide, etc.

    Yellow phosphorus is also called white phosphorus for white to light yellow brittle waxy solid. White phosphorus is very reactive, must be stored in water, people inhaled 0.1 grams of white phosphorus will be poisoned to death. White phosphorus changes to red phosphorus when heated to 260°C in the absence of air, or when exposed to light. Red phosphorus is non-toxic and does not catch fire until heated to more than 240°C. Under high pressure, white phosphorus can be converted into black phosphorus, which has a layered network structure, conducts electricity and is the most stable of phosphorus allotropes.

    If oxygen is insufficient, white phosphorus oxidizes very slowly under humid conditions and is accompanied by phosphorescence. White phosphorus can be dissolved in hot concentrated alkali solution to produce phosphine and phosphite dihydrogen salt;

    Chemical formula for reaction of white phosphorus with hot concentrated lye:

    P4 + 3KOH + 3H2O→ PH3↑ + 3KH2PO2.

    Old-fashioned incandescent light bulbs put a little red phosphorus on the sensing column. When heated, red phosphorus turns into white phosphorus, which readily reacts with oxygen to form solid phosphorus pentoxide (chemical equation: 4P+5O2=2P2O5), which "eats" the oxygen. In this way, the remaining oxygen in the glass shell is eliminated. Prevent the tungsten wire from being burned off soon after the temperature rises to more than 2000℃.

    physico-chemical propertyIts appearance is yellow waxy solid, soft, can be cut with a knife. Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol, soluble in liquid alkali, benzene, ether, chloroform, toluene, easily soluble in carbon disulfide.
    product useIt is mainly used for the production of phosphoric acid, phosphorus trichloride, phosphorus trichloride, diphosphorus pentasulfide and other phosphorus compounds, as well as raw materials for the manufacture of trichlorfon, methamidine, chlorobamidine, chlorophenone, dichlorvos and other organic pesticides and rodenticides. A small amount is used to produce red phosphorus and phosphorus pentoxide. It is used militarily in the manufacture of Molotov cocktails, tracers, smoke bombs and flares. Also used in the production of phosphorus and ferroalloy and medicine, organic raw materials and other industries.
    securityBelongs to the first class spontaneous combustion articles, danger code number; GB4.2 Class 42001. UN NO. 13 81 (submerged in water). 2447(molten); IMDG CODE 4249, 4250 pages, Class 4.2, Sub-hazard Class 6.1. Should be stored in a cool storeroom, should be reserved for storage. Should be isolated from inflammable products, explosives, oxidants, sulfur, halogens, strong acids and oxygen, away from heat sources and fire. Yellow phosphorus is extremely dangerous. It can spontaneously combust in air and must be immersed in water. Handle gently when handling, prevent vibration, friction, and strictly prevent upside down of the barrel. Extremely toxic yellow phosphorus; Wear protective equipment during operation to prevent contact with skin and do not enter. Iron bucket dress, bucket body should absolutely not leak, bucket filled with cold water (to prevent the use of alkaline water), yellow phosphorus immersed in water, the free space above the water layer should not be less than 5% of the total volume. The net weight of each barrel is 20 ~ 50kg. The sides of the drums should be painted with obvious signs of "spontaneous combustibles" and "violent drugs". It burns the skin. Acute poisoning can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomit that smells of garlic and glows in the dark. When the skin is burned by yellow phosphorus, wash it immediately with plenty of water and remove the yellow phosphorus with a wooden scraper under the water. If splash into eyes, should immediately flush with plenty of water, sent to the hospital for treatment. Clothes burned by yellow phosphorus must be put out with water and taken off immediately. In case of acute poisoning caused by accidental ingestion of yellow phosphorus, the stomach should be repeatedly lavage with 0. 2% potassium hypermanganate or 1% copper sulfate solution until the smell of yellow phosphorus in the wash solution disappears. Ingestion of 50mg/kg can be fatal in adults. The maximum allowable concentration is 0. 03mg/kg. When operating, wear work clothes, respirator and other labor protection supplies. Do not eat or smoke in the workshop. Shower after work. The production process should be airtight and well ventilated. Production workers should have a semi-annual physical examination and be given a healthy diet.
