Magnesium sulfate, or anhydrous magnesium sulfate and magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, is a compound containing magnesium with the formula MgSO4 (or MgSO4·7H2O).

Anhydrous magnesium sulfate is a commonly used chemical reagent and drying reagent. However, magnesium sulfate often refers to magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, because it is not easy to dissolve, and is easier to weigh than anhydrous magnesium sulfate, which is convenient for quantitative control in industry.

Chinese name: Magnesium sulfate. magnesium sulphate (Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate). Can be used for leather, explosives, paper, porcelain, fertilizer, and medical oral laxatives. Mineral water additive. Magnesium sulfate is used in agriculture as a fertilizer because magnesium is one of the main components of chlorophyll. It is commonly used in potted plants or on magnesium-deficient crops, such as tomatoes, potatoes, roses, etc. Magnesium sulfate has the advantage of higher solubility than other fertilizers. Magnesium sulfate is also used as a bath salt.

    This product is not regulated.

    Medical use
It can be used as an anticonvulsant. It is often used for pregnancy-induced hypertension. It lowers blood pressure, treats preeclampsia and eclampsia, and is also used to treat premature births.

It is often used to treat convulsion, eclampsia, uremia, tetanus and hypertensive encephalopathy. Magnesium sulfate can be used to treat constipation and abnormal intestinal fermentation.

    Folding chemical composition
The main ingredient of this product is magnesium sulfate.

It is a bactericidal aqueous solution of magnesium sulfate. Magnesium sulfate (MgSO4.7H2O) should be 95.0% ~ 105.0% of the indicated amount.

    Molecular formula :MgSO4·7H2O

    Molecular weight :246.48

    Main effect
    (1) Magnesium sulfate can inhibit the central nervous system, relax skeletal muscle, sedation, anti-spasticity and reduce intracranial pressure. It is often used to treat convulsion, eclampsia, uremia, tetanus and hypertensive encephalopathy. More than 10% magnesium sulfate 10 ml deep intramuscular injection or 5% glucose diluted into 2% to 2.5% solution slowly drip. However, it should be noted that direct intravenous injection or large dose intramuscular injection of magnesium sulfate is dangerous, generally 25% magnesium sulfate can be used up to 15 ml each time. When using, attention should be paid to observe the patient's breathing and blood pressure, and slow knee reflexes are important signs of sufficient magnesium ions.

    (2) Magnesium plays an extremely important role in the metabolism of sugars and proteins. Growing children with indigestion and vitamin D should be supplemented with magnesium salt.

    (3) Magnesium has many physiological functions similar to potassium. Because the clinical manifestations of magnesium deficiency are similar to potassium deficiency, magnesium deficiency is often overlooked. When the symptoms of potassium deficiency are still not improved after potassium supplementation, the possibility of magnesium deficiency should be considered first, so that hypomagnesemia can be corrected in time. Therefore, patients with long-term infusion should pay attention to magnesium supplementation while supplementing potassium. Adding 1 gram of magnesium sulfate to daily infusion can prevent the occurrence of hypomagnesemia.

    (4) When patients with cardiac dysfunction use digitalis drugs, magnesium salt can be properly supplemented to prevent low magnesium and increase the toxicity of digitalis. Magnesium salts are often effective in treating tachycardia.

    (5) Oral magnesium sulfate is poorly absorbed in the intestine, so it has no use as described above. However, oral magnesium sulfate has good cathartic function, so magnesium sulfate is also called Epsom salt. After the oral magnesium sulfate solution reaches the intestinal cavity, it has certain osmotic pressure, so that the intestinal water is not absorbed by the intestinal wall. There is a lot of water in the intestine, which can mechanically stimulate the peristalsis of the intestine and defecate. Therefore, magnesium sulfate can be used to treat constipation and abnormal intestinal fermentation. When used with insect repellent, intestinal worms can be easily expelled. You can dissolve 5 to 20 grams of magnesium sulfate in 100 to 400 ml of warm water each time, and take it orally once in the morning. The concentration should not be too high, 5% is better, otherwise defecation delay.

    (6) Magnesium sulfate can stimulate the duodenal mucosa, reflexively cause the relaxation of the common bile duct sphincter and the contraction of the gallbladder, thereby promoting gallbladder empty. it is beneficial to the gallbladder. Can be used to treat cholecystitis cholelithiasis, 2 to 5 grams per time, 3 times a day, before or between meals. 50% magnesium sulfate diluted to 33% (high concentration), 5ml Tid.

    (7) Magnesium sulfate can be used for gastrointestinal angiography

    (8) Anti-inflammatory to remove swelling This product 50% solution for external hot compress the affected area, has the effect of anti-inflammatory to remove swelling.

External application of magnesium sulfate powder can reduce swelling, which is used to treat swelling after limb trauma and help improve rough skin. Magnesium sulfate

Magnesium sulfate is easily soluble in water and is not absorbed by internal administration. Magnesium ion and sulfate ion in aqueous solution are not easily absorbed by the intestinal wall, which increases intestinal osmotic pressure, moves the moisture of body fluids to the intestinal cavity, increases the volume of the intestinal cavity and expands the intestinal wall, thus stimulating the afferent nerve endings of the intestinal wall and reflexively causes the increase of intestinal peristalsis and catharsis. Its effect is fast and strong in all intestinal segments. Used as cathartic agent and duodenal drainage agent.

Intravenous injection and intramuscular injection of magnesium sulfate are mainly used for anticonvulsants, which can cause vasodilation and decrease blood pressure. Due to its central inhibitory effect, skeletal muscle relaxation and antihypertensive effect, magnesium sulfate is mainly used for relieving convulsions such as eclampsia and tetanus, and is also used for the treatment of hypertensive crises. It is also used to detoxify barium salts.
