Diethyl carbonate (CAS 105-58-8) is a colorless liquid with a fruity odor. It has a basic structure consisting of two ethyl groups attached to a carbonate group. This chemical is highly soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether, but only slightly soluble in water. Diethyl carbonate has a boiling point of 126-127°C and a melting point of -43°C. It is flammable and can form explosive mixtures with air. In addition, it is stable under normal conditions and does not react with water or acids.
