What is HPMC /Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose?

Hydroxypropy Methyl Cellulose (HPMC) is  widely used as a thickener, stabilizer and water retaining agent for building materials. It provides water retention and workability for mortars, it can improve adhesion, reduce skinning and increase open time.HPMC also has thickening ability, low ash content, PH stability, water retention, excellent film forming, and extensive enzyme resistance, dispersion and so on.
Hydroxypropy Methyl Cellulose (HPMC) is a highly pure cotton cellulose as raw material, under alkaline conditions by special etherification and preparation.White or whitish powder.HPMC decreases with the decrease of methoxide content, increase of gel point, decrease of water solubility and decrease of surface activity.
Hydroxypropy Methyl Cellulose (HPMC) has thickening ability, salt resistance, low ash powder, pH stability, water retention, dimensional stability, excellent film forming, and a wide range of enzyme resistance, dispersion and adhesion.

1. 1.Construction industry: with good thixotropy and adhesive, so that mortar can be pumped.As binders in plaster,gypsum material, putty power or other materials.
   
   2.Ceramic industry:widely used as a binder in manufacture of ceramic products.
   
   3.Paint industry: as a thickening agent, dispersing agent and stabilizer in the paint industry, and have a good compatibility in water or organic solvents.
   
   4.Ink printing:as a thickening agent
   
   5.Plastic:as forming release agent, softening agent,lubricant etc.
   
   6.PVC:as dispersant in the polyvinyl chloride production, the main auxiliaries of suspension polymerization for preparing PVC.
   
   7.Others:this product is also widely used in leather,paper products, fresh fruits and vegetables and the textile industry.

This product include Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose(HPMC)of pharmaceutical grade and industrial grade. 

 1. Pharmaceutical grade : this product is mainly used for pharmaceutic adjuvant that can be used as a thickener, dispersing agent, emulsifier and film-forming agent etc. When used as film coating and adhesive in drug tablets, it can significantly improve the waterproofing of tablets. Besides, it can also be used as suspension, ophthalmic preparation, slow and controlled release agent skeleton and floating tablets etc..

HPMC is combined with colloidal drugs as other synthetic polymers in order to prevent the separation of water and ethanol from transparent water and colloidal materials and improve water retention; and it is also used in food, cosmetics and other fields as thickener, emulsifier and to improve the rheological properties as well as other daily chemical industries, etc.

2. Industrial grade: industrial grade HPMC is mainly used as dispersant in PVC production and is also the main additive of PVC preparation for suspension polymerization. In building construction, it is mainly used for external wall thermal insulation system, thermal insulation mortar, decoration mortar, masonry mortar and selfleveling mortar etc.. It is used as thickener, stabilizer, emulsifier, excipient, water retaining agent, filmforming agent etc. in the production of petrochemical products,paint remover, agricultural chemicals, printing ink, textile printing and dyeing, ceramics, papermaking, cosmetics and other products.
