Metal soaps used as polyvinyl chloride stabilizers are mainly advanced fatty acid salts of cadmium, barium, calcium, zinc and magnesium. The base is stearic acid and lauric acid salts. The performance of metal soap stabilizer varies with the type of metal and the acid group, and the general rule is as follows: Heat resistance: cadmium and zinc soap have good initial heat resistance; Barium, calcium, magnesium, strontium soap has good long-term heat resistance, and lead soap is in the middle. Weather resistance: cadmium, zinc, lead, barium, tin soap is better. Processability: The lubricity of lead and cadmium soap is good, but the acid group also has a great influence on the lubricity. For the same metal, the aliphatic is better than the aromatic, and the longer the molecular chain in the aliphatic acid group, the better the lubricity. Barium, calcium, magnesium and strontium soaps have poor lubricity but good gelation ability. Extrusion property: barium, calcium, magnesium, strontium soap is easy to produce extrusion phenomenon, while zinc, cadmium, lead soap is not easy to produce extrusion phenomenon, the longer the molecular chain of fatty acid soap, the more heavy pressure precipitation, the more harmful the spray. Lead and cadmium soaps have high toxicity and sulfide pollution. Calcium and zinc soaps are used in the non-toxic formula. Barium and zinc soaps are used in the formula resistant to vulcanization contamination. Magnesium stearate can be considered non-toxic, the United States, Germany and Japan allow base for use in food contact products, but as a PVC heat stabilizer is not widely used. This variety is included in the pharmacopoeia of our country and some other countries, where the content of magnesium, moisture, heavy metals, iron, sulfate and chloride are specified.
